You can use headphones as a microphone(you need an mp3 player that can accept a mic input). The quality is usually pretty bad though

I still think the recordings done with a minidisc and a proper mic are the best ones. I used a Sharp minidisc MD MT20 and a Skytronic clip mic to record some BR shows in the past.

Hold on; headphones are able to record? I assume you're talking about headphones that specifically have a mic, right?

I'm pretty sure headphones can record. Don't know the ins and outs of it (LOL! Inputs and outputs!), but I know if you plug some microphones into headphone sockets they'll start playing music from them.

Normal headphones should be able to record if you plug them into the microphone input. It has something to do with the drivers, I don't know the technical specifics of it, though.
I'm thinking about getting a taping rig set up, and I'm pretty sure I know what mics and preamp I'm going to buy, but I don't know what I want to use for the recorder.
