Besides Bad Religion, The Vandals were the first band on Epitaph, where they released their debut EP Peace Thru Vandalism. Bobby knows Warren Fitzgerald (their guitar player) from back in Warren's Oingo Boingo days.
Brett did backup vocals for Anarchy Burger (Hold the Government) (credited as Brett Religion). Furthermore, the song was inspired by Jay: "The idea for this song came from a drunken visit to a Stuckey's restaurant in 1982. Nice guy Jay Bentley of Bad Religion drove the Vandals out to Arizona to play with TSOL and JFA. On the way back at Stuckey's, Joe blurted out 'I'll have an anarchy burger, hold the government' to the lady behind the counter. He made up this nonsense just to make Jay laugh. Jay laughed so hard that Joe went home and immediately made a whole song around the concept."
Their album Live Fast, Diarrhea has a song called Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious where they copy the beginning part of Fuck Armageddon... This Is Hell and close with a segment from We're Only Gonna Die.
Josh Freese: "They're in the 2% of bands smart enough to know what they are talking about."
Joe Escalante: "Well I don't think Bad Religion is that serious. They just got a dictionary, look up any word ending in T.I.O.N. and put it together with terrific music. I think they know what they are doing, we don't do it but that's one of my favorite bands."
