Yeah, I've seen those around before. When I get my car in two years (I'mma make it look like the Norhtern version of the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard, the General Grant.) I'm gonna get a vanity plate that says "CNH 320" like the General Lee. If I don't make my car the General Grant then I'mma paint it black and slap a big ol' cross buster on the top of it.

Forget license plates, we need more BR bumper stickers. I want one that says "I am Jay Bentley's lovechild"

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments!
Just to clarify, in most (perhaps all) US states, you can get customized license tags for your car by paying a fee. Like Justin said, the government will do (almost) anything for money.
I had to pay $50 for two years' registration. The tags are perfectly legal, they were delivered to me in the mail. I guess the only downside is that my crime victims will be able to remember my tag # easier ;)
I also donated $20 to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to get the nice "Treasure the Chesapeake" design.
It was that or blow $150+ on an original "Into the Unknown" vinyl. Maybe later, that one :)

Here in L.A. it seems that almost half the cars on the road have customized plates. When I get bored in traffic, I kill time by trying to decifer what they say.

The personal plates here in the state I live in are relatively inexpensive and produced by the state. Something like $24 for the 1st year to produce it and $4 to renew. This is in addition to the standard tag fee though.

In response to "My Epitome Me from Argentina", yeah, vanity plates are more expensive, but they are legal plates. The government will do anything for money.

Actually, what's interesting is that all vanity plates I've seen before look just like regular plates, but the numbers and letters aren't embossed. This one clearly is, I wonder how that happened.

They're called "vanity plates" for a reason, you know.

Does it work that way in the US? You can really customize your license plates? Are they actually legal or you still have to carry the standard one somewhere? Here it is forbidden.
By the way Simian, how the hell did you find this juicy tid-bit of information?
